What is a proxy?
A proxy is an IP address you use to cloak your real IP address for the purpose of anonymity. There are many reasons why a person would need or want to use a proxy. Proxies are typically associated with “Blackhat” technics to do things otherwise against the terms of service of a search engines or companies.
What can I do with proxies?
For internet marketing proxies are often used with blackhat tools such as Scrapebox or Xrumur. These tools allow you to scrape URL’s to run back-linking or URL harvesting projects on. These tools work so fast that if one was to use their personal IP address the search engines like Google and Yahoo etc. would ban your IP address because of to many queries. With the use of using a proxy these queries are coming from multiple IPs and therefore let you do these tasks without the risk of getting your actual IP in trouble.
There are other uses of proxies in the Internet marketing world such as you went and got your Google Adwords account banned and you need to setup a new account however your IP is banned so you would use a proxy (combined with other things) to setup a new account and be able to run your PPC campaign’s again.
Another use for proxies is the ability to create multiple accounts on various services like YouTube and forums that only allow 1 account per house hold.
There are so many cool things that having proxies will allow you to do, if you wife prints coupons you know they only allow one coupon to be printed (tracked by cookies or IP address) well use a proxy and you can print as many as you have proxies for.
Another serious black thing you can do with proxies is you install a free plugin for you internet browser then load up your proxies and just like that you are now surfing the internet as someone else in whatever location in the world you proxy IP is located.
How many proxies do I need for Scrapebox?
I’ve found that having 10 proxies it typically enough, it really depends on how many projects your running and how much you intend to harvest.
Where is the best place to get proxies?
There are two types of proxies, free and paid. Free proxies are typically slow and get banned quickly because so many people use them. I don’t like using free proxies because I like knowing I’m the only one using the proxy I have running and I want the speed of the dedicated IP. After trying many proxy services I decided on Anonymous-proxies.net first they have a list of proxies that allow for the use of Scrapebox and the use with Facebook. It’s important to note that not all proxies companies will allow any use you want with them. You need to make sure the company you choose to go with will allow you to use your proxies with whatever service you want to run them with.
At Anonymous-proxies.net I paid about $2.50 per proxy per month and buying 10 I got a 5% discount and they were running a special promo that gave me 2 extra free for a month so 12 proxies for about 23 bucks a month, Not too shabby.
